Located in Douglas, Wine Down is the Isle of Man’s vibrant independent wine merchant and bistro-style restaurant, offering a unique blend of fine wines and exceptional food in a relaxed, intimate setting. With over 36 years of experience in the wine trade, the team behind Wine Down has curated a handpicked collection of more than 300 wines from around the world — from the classic regions of France and Italy to rising stars like Macedonia and Croatia.
More than just a wine shop, Wine Down is a passion project brought to life by Roy and Anne — the same duo behind the much-loved Macfarlane’s Restaurant. With Roy’s 39 years in the kitchen and Anne’s 44 years in wine, they’ve created a place that celebrates the art of pairing great wine with great food, all served with warmth, expertise, and a personal touch.
Inside, Wine Down offers a cosy, elegant atmosphere, where diners are invited to settle in, slow down, and savour. The food menu is built around seasonal Manx produce, with a regularly changing selection of small plates, mains, and sharing dishes designed to complement the wine list.
Highlights include crispy duck spring rolls, Manx fish pie, rich and comforting coq au vin, and expertly cooked Manx steaks. The Chateaubriand — a sharing dish for two — is a favourite for a special occasion, and dessert lovers will appreciate indulgent options like sticky toffee pudding, affogato, and a well-curated cheeseboard.
While the food is reason enough to visit, it’s the wine that takes the experience to another level. Guests are encouraged to explore the extensive wine list, with guidance from Anne or one of the knowledgeable team members — all of whom are trained to WSET Level 2 and happy to help you find the perfect match for your meal. Wines can be enjoyed by the bottle or the glass, making it easy to try something new or indulge in an old favourite.
